Golfing in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is home to three of the finest 18-hole Golf courses based in Colombo, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. These golf courses run through the lush forests and the ball flies with the green canopy in the backdrop. Although, Sri Lanka is yet to make a mark in the field of Golf, but it has some of the popular courses that are preferred by avid golfer. These are The Royal Colombo Golf Club, The Victoria Golf and Nuwara Eliya Golf Club respectively.

Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Nestled amid tea estates and misty hills, this century old Golf Club in Nuwara Eliya is a favourite destination for beginners and also pro-golfers. It has an 18-hole golf course that is one of the finest in the country. This golf course was built by the British in 1889, though the golf club still emanates the same charm of the colonial era. Hence the dinner served in this club is also classic English cuisine.

Victoria Golf and Country ResortA 517-acre property, this golf course is set in the verdant hills of the Knuckles Range.  It is also a part of the residential complex with an equestrian club, tennis court and a swimming pool. Victoria Golf Resort was awarded as the finest and flawlessly maintained golf course in the Indian subcontinent for many years. It was also declared as the ‘Best in Asia 2005’ by Asian Golf Monthly. This 6877m (par 73) golf course has made full usage of its features like rising and falling hillside and splendid forest of Jak Golfers Digest that cements is position as one of the top 100 Most Beautiful Courses in the World.

Royal Colombo Golf Club Counted among the oldest golf clubs in the world, it was rewarded as a Royal Charter from the British Crown in 1928. Sprawling over an area of 96 acre, it nestles in the picturesque suburb of Colombo. This is the reason; the Golf Club gives a strong feeling of a sanctuary inside the commercial capital of Sri Lanka. The Golf Club can be reached by car after driving for 20 minutes. Sixth hole of the golf course is located near the place where the Railway line of Kelani Valley runs through.
